希望一年更比一年充实起来~ May 23 有幸跟美国国务卿Rice 英国外交大臣Miliband握手,做demoAs we know, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and British Foreign Secretary David Miliband visited Google yesterday. In building 40 University Theater, I was lucky to help Brian gave a GEO demo to Secretary Rice and Secretary Miliband for about 7-8 minutes. After a quick demo of street view, the rest of the demo was mainly focused on My Maps (our group's product) and its application in disasters. First, Brian showed them how to create a "My Map" and put markers on it (search index will index the markers soon). Then, he showed them the San Diego fire map, and talked about how this map was timely updated and got millions of views within a very short period of time and mentioned China Snow Storm map early this year. Following that, we demoed the aggregated mapplet that was recently developed by Google China team. http://ditu.google.com/maps/mpl?moduleurl=http://china-dizhen.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/mapplets/earthquake.xml Tab 1: The most recent disaster info. (such as websites where you can search relatives info or report safety to relatives, Google earth satellite images and etc) In the end, Brian also demoed the Myanmar Cyclone Nargis mapplet and show the flooded area. http://maps.google.com/ig/add?synd=mpl&pid=mpl&moduleurl=http://mw1.google.com/mw-earth-vectordb/myanmar20080507/maps/mapplet.xml US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and British Foreign Secretary David Miliband were very impressed by these my maps and the usage in the disasters by millions of people. Google products demo yesterday includes four booths: Mobile, Google.org, Google ops and Geo. After the four booths, Rice and Miliband sat back and enjoyed Google earth demo projected on the big screen (3D city integrated with Street View, such as San Francisco) and tried the 3D mouse. After all demos, Secretary Rice, Secretary Miliband, Sergey and other representatives sat down and discussed policy issue in this technology world. May 19 (Recap) Thank you all who participated or helped our SF event!Dear all,
Thank you so much for all the great efforts during the past three days.
Although this event was initially just 2-3 friends' impulsive idea on Thursday evening. It turned out that we had more than 40 people helped throughout the event. They came from Google, Oracle, Stanford University, Yahoo, Nvidia, Facebook, University of California-San Francisco, a San Francisco-based financial company, some startup companies, a headhunter company, a special educational institute, and a lot more that I didn't remember. On Saturday, we had more than 8 volunteers as first group handed out flyers at different locations in San Francisco, such as Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Union Square, BART and etc. They brought back very valuable feedback.
On Sunday, we had more than 25 volunteers participated at different locations in SF and on Caltrains. Our large posters draw numerous foreigners attentions at union square and Caltrain Station. Some of the volunteers even attached the colorful posters in the front and at the back of they bodies as story tellers. Another group of volunteers attached slogans on both sides of their bodies and walked through thousands of "Bay to Breakers" (a big event in San Francisco). A lot other volunteers did a great job in handing out flyers and explaining foreigners about the facts. In totally, we handed out almost 2000 flyers, with facts, pictures and donations instructions on each of them. Thank you, thank you all for spreading the word!! Behind the scene, we had four friends stayed up until 3AM on Friday night, made the first version of our posters and the flyer draft. On Saturday night, we had another 6 friends stayed up until 4-5AM to make the final posters, flyers and got everything ready. Several of us slept only 3 hours or less, got up early to pick up friends, drove to SF and transported all the equipments to sites. One of our drivers have been driving in SF almost every hour on Sunday from morning to evening, although he only slept 3 hours and didn't have breakfast or lunch. (He is visiting from Google China office.) One of our organizers got sick after a whole day's work on Saturday in SF, but he rode a bike and came again on Sunday to help us. There are a lot more touching stories behind the scene. I don't know how to express my thankfulness to all of you... It is the disaster that made us closely united!
Besides these, I want to thank Google San Francisco office for the great support in our equipments.
Thank Zhejiang Univ. Alumni(Zheda Alumni) President Guowen Lu for the great support! And, although we decided not to accept donations on site for security reasons, I still would like to thank President of Tsinghua foundation (SVTN) Huaqiang Wu and Shin Shin Educational Foundation Chin Lin for their timely response and great help in the past two days. We look forward to working with you again in future. Hopefully the guys who took photos can send me the pictures soon, so that I can share them with you. Sorry that the coming casual group pictures missed a lot of volunteers who left silently... You are all heroes. Thank you, thank you all!
Please forward this email to your friends who joined or helped us but not in the email group. Yes, we are all Chinese! With the help of Chinese from all over the world, we bless China will conquer all the troubles and have a successful 2008!

标 题: 旧金山街头募捐-Join us in San Francisco this weekend for earthquake donation 发信站: BBS 未名空间站 (Fri May 16 00:46:14 2008) Dear friends, As all of us have seen from the news, the earthquake is such a tragedy for our Chinese. Besides tears and our own donations, let's do something more this weekend to help the tens of thousands of people who suffered in this disaster. My friends and I are planning to organize a donation event in San Francisco this weekend--街头募捐 Where: Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco. (And other places in San Francisco if we have enough people) When: this SAT&SUN. (come and leave at whatever time convenient for you) What to do: we plan to create a poster to display photos of earthquake and let people know what's happening in China. Call for donations! Here are the ways we are thinking to facilitate people's donations: 1) We buy envelopes & stamps, print red cross's address on them. Give them to people who want to donate, so that they can put the money in and mail it easily. 2) Collect people's email address, who are interested in donations. Then, we send donation links to them. 3) Print flyers (with donation instructions) and give them to people who walk by. Please let us know if you have any other better ideas. To do this, we need more hands. The more people we have, the more streets we will set up donation tables. If you are free sometime this weekend, please join us. You can come and leave at whatever time that is convenient for you.
(view count on the map info has been greatly decreased due to our current caching algorithm.)
(refresh the page several times if you don't see it.) China maps: ditu.google.cn (or ditu.google.com)
Google的west coast trip: Feb.4--Feb.6。 Disneyland trip; 2. desert camping trip。
Feb.15--Feb.17 EA friends Yosemite camping trip.
March.1--March.7 possible visiting friends: Li Zhen,
not only Georgia friends,好想跟从小到大所有的朋友都keep in touch,经常打打电话,结果发现自己的时间总是少的可怜,即使知道有些朋友在想念我,我也特别想念他们,但也拿不起电话了,MSN也很少用了。
